Inside the Jojoba Harvest: How Australian Jojoba Is Grown
There’s something grounding about standing in a jojoba field at harvest time. The earth is warm beneath your feet, the shrubs stretch out in neat rows, and beneath them lie thousands of tiny beans, each one carrying years of patience, care and quiet work by the land.
This is where Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba begins. Not in a lab or factory, but on our family farm in Yenda, New South Wales, where every step of the journey is guided by nature, sustainability and respect for the land.
In this behind-the-scenes look at our harvest process, we explore how jojoba is grown, why it takes time, and how each bean is transformed, gently and thoughtfully, into the pure liquid wax at the heart of every product we make.
The Ideal Climate for Jojoba
Jojoba thrives where many plants struggle. It loves long days of sunshine, minimal frost and well-draining soil — conditions that closely resemble its native desert environment.
Our Wadi-Wadi Jojoba farm in Yenda provides exactly that. The climate encourages slow, steady growth, while naturally draining soils allow roots to grow deep and strong. This results in resilient plants and beans rich in the wax esters that make jojoba so unique and skin compatible.
Rather than forcing growth, we work with the land — allowing the plants to grow at their own pace, season after season.

From Cutting to Harvest-Ready Plant
Jojoba is not a quick crop. It’s a long-term commitment.
Our plants are grown from cuttings taken from mature trees, not from seed. This ensures consistency, quality and predictability across the farm. From there, it takes around eight years for a jojoba plant to reach full maturity and produce beans at their best.
During this time, the focus is on:
- Minimal irrigation to encourage deep root systems
- Careful pruning and monitoring
- Ongoing soil regeneration for long-term farm health
That patience shows up in the final product, a pure, skin-identical liquid wax that works effortlessly with the skin.
Male, Female and the Rhythm of Pollination
Jojoba plants are either male or female. The female Wadi-Wadi plants produce the beans, while the male Dadi-Dadi plants provide pollen.
Each year, nature takes over. In late winter, male plants release pollen, which is carried by the wind to the female bushes. No intervention. No chemicals. Just a natural cycle that has worked for generations.
This low-intervention approach supports healthy seed development and reflects our philosophy: trust the process, don’t rush nature.
Caring for the Soil — Now and Into the Future
Healthy jojoba starts with healthy soil.
Rather than relying on harsh chemicals or shortcuts, we focus on nurturing the land, so it remains productive for generations to come. This means:
-
Supporting soil structure and biodiversity
-
Using natural fertilisers and cover crops
-
Protecting the ecosystem beneath the surface
Just as we formulate skincare to support the skin barrier, we treat the soil with the same respect and long-term thinking.
Harvest Time: When Patience Pays Off
Harvest takes place during summer, when the jojoba beans naturally fall from the bushes as they reach peak ripeness. Any remaining beans are gently encouraged to fall using mechanical assistance that protects the plants.
Timing is everything. Beans collected too early haven’t reached their full potential; too late and quality can decline. Our farmers monitor the fields closely, ensuring each bean is collected at just the right moment.
Using the Whole Bean
Every jojoba bean matters.
Around 50% of the bean’s total mass is pure jojoba liquid wax, an exceptionally high yield. The remaining material is carefully dried and finely ground into a facial-grade exfoliant, which can be blended with jojoba to create a gentle, natural exfoliation for both face and body.
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is wasted.
By using the entire bean, we minimise waste, honour the harvest, and ensure every part of the plant has a purpose, a sustainable approach that respects the land today and protects it for generations to come.
Cold-Pressed, Filtered and Bottled — Just as Nature Intended
Once harvested, the beans are cleaned and cold-pressed using an extra-virgin process that uses no heat and no chemicals. This protects the integrity of the jojoba and preserves everything the skin loves.
The liquid wax is then filtered 14 times to achieve exceptional purity and clarity before being poured straight into the bottle.
Nothing added. Nothing taken away.
The result is 100% pure Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba, clean, skin-identical and incredibly versatile.
Sustainability at Every Step
Sustainability isn’t a single decision; it’s a mindset that guides every stage of our process.
From propagation to harvest and beyond, our approach ensures:
-
Every part of the bean is used
-
The land is protected and regenerated
-
Farming practices support long-term environmental balance
It’s skincare that respects both skin and soil.
