Keeping Australia Beautiful with The Jojoba Company
[product name="ultimate-serum" align="left"]
We might be a little biased… but we believe Australia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We’ll take any opportunity to let people know how proud we are of our home. As a proud Australian-owned brand, we pride ourselves on minimising our environmental impact.
Why Australian Skincare?
Great question!
As a safe skincare brand, the ingredients in our products are ethically sourced from nature. So, we have made a promise to take care of the world that grows these incredible ingredients so we can keep making the skincare you love!
As a brand, we believe that it is important to take care of our earth and are always looking for ways to better ourselves.
If you have a tip for us, we would love to hear from you. Please email info@thejojobacompany.com.au and let us know what you think we can improve on.
How?
Although there is always room for improvement when talking about limiting our impact on the environment, we are constantly tweaking our processes to limit harm to the planet.
Here are a few ways we say YES to the environment.
Incorporating recyclable packaging
We place our delicate glass bottles in boxes to help protect them during transit, however, in the case of our Jojoba Bead Cleanser and our Citrus Gel Cleanser, we have removed boxes for these altogether as they don’t need the extra protection.
‘Safe’ skincare, in all aspects
The ingredients that aren’t grown on Beresford Farm are ethically sourced from known farmers around the world. When we say ‘safe’ skincare, we aren’t just talking about the product being safe to use on the skin, we are talking about our products being safe, from all aspects. We never source ingredients that use child labour or have unsafe work conditions and we never source ingredients that use harmful pesticides and chemicals. Since the very beginning, our ethos has never changed, to provide you with safe and effective skincare.
Compostable packing peanuts
We use compostable packing peanuts in all of our online orders. If you open up your package to see white packing fill, do not be alarmed, it’s not plastic! Our compostable packing peanuts are made from a mix of potato and corn starch, which easily dissolve in water. Pop them in your compost bin, fill them in a bucket of water to hydrate your gardens or even use them for arts and crafts!
Avoiding microplastic pollution
Our products are not just safe for you but also safe for the environment. We go through a strenuous formulation process to ensure our products are safe for all. For example, when creating our Jojoba Bead Cleanser, it was essential for us to not use plastic microbeads, as these end up clogging our waterways and filling the stomachs of sea life with plastic. It is estimated that more than 800 trillion pieces of microplastic go down American drains every single day. To combat this, we opted for solidified Jojoba beads, which are soft and round so they don’t cause micro tears and dissolve as you exfoliate. Taking care of our farm
Our farm manager and soil expert Farmer Tavis is continuously working on ways to improve the health of Beresford farm - and it all starts with healthy soil.
Here are a few things we’re starting to implement on the farm to improve the health of our soil:
Cover-cropping: Planting annual cover crops post-harvest, which grow for 6-7 months and are cleared before the following harvest. These help with water infiltration and improve our soil health.
Green compost: Replacing conventional fertilisers with organic, naturally-sourced compost is better for soil health as it means our crops won’t experience the soil and water pollution that comes from using harmful chemicals.
Mulching: When the crops are pruned, the trimmings are mulched into the soil, helping to complete the cycle by feeding nutrients back into the soil to keep it healthy.
Keep Australia Beautiful 2022: #ContainYourWaste
This year, Keep Australia Beautiful Week falls on 15-21 August. The theme for 2022 is 'Contain Your Waste', which focuses on the importance of reducing waste at the source.
The challenge is for Australians to choose a container from their house and fill it with the amount of waste (non-composable and non-recyclable items) that is produced during KAB week.
The point of this challenge is to raise awareness about the right ways to reduce waste and the importance of recycling to keep our streets and public areas beautiful and litter-free.
According to KAB, "reducing waste right at the source is the most effective and efficient way to make a genuine impact in Australia".
What About the Future?
We are encouraging everyone to send in a picture of how you up-cycle your Australian Jojoba bottle. Our signature bottle is the perfect little flower vase or olive oil decanter.
Why recycle when you can up-cycle? Give your bottle a new lease on life. Let us see what you create – tag us in your photos on Instagram @thejojobaco
We are constantly making changes to keep Australia beautiful because Australia will always be the spiritual home of Australia and we are honoured to call this place home.
